Founded in 2006, and incorporated in 2011, FIXT POINT is a professional theatre company run by a committed board of directors, and led by a Managing Director and Artistic Director with a dedicated staff based in their Toronto headquarters.
In 2014, FIXT POINT launched a national tour of The Tale of a Town in collaboration with The National Arts Centre and presenting partners from across the country. Tale of a Town is a site-specific theatre and media project that is capturing the collective community memory of Canada's Main Streets, one story at a time...
The Tale of a Town - Canada opened at the 2014 Magnetic North Festival in Halifax, then went onto PEI where it was presented by Harbourfront Theatre and Victoria Playhouse, followed by a production in New Brunswick with The Fredericton Playhouse, and in Newfoundland & Labrador through a partnership with The Art and Culture Centres. In the 2014 season, The Tale of a Town was also presented in: London, Ontario with The Grand Theatre; Ottawa with The Shenkman Centre for the Arts, The Great Canadian Theatre Company and Arts Court. This was followed by a library residency with The Tale of a Town in Mimico, through a strategic initiative funding from the Toronto Arts Council. In 2015, our national tour continued, with storymobiles touring to the provinces of Quebec, Manitoba and Saskatchewan and Alberta to gather stories. Interviews gathered became part of performance installations created in collaboration with local artists and presented by Curtain Razors Theatre in Regina, SK, and The Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre in Medicine Hat, AB.
In 2016, The Tale of a Town toured to Prince George, BC with a presentation at Theatre NorthWest, then we boarded a ship with Adventure Canada to gather stories in Nunavut, next we headed to Whitehorse to conduct interviews and create a show that opened the season at the Yukon Arts Centre, after which we made our way to The Northwest Territories to gather stories and create a show in an empty mall downtown Yellowknife - completing our tour of The Tale of a Town to every province and territory in Canada! In addition, between 2015 and 2017, FIXT POINT brought The Tale of a Town project to 24 communities across Ontario, gathering interviews and creating podcasts and performances in both French and English. This three year initiative was made possible with the support of Ontario Trillium Foundation multi-year funding, Ontario 400, and Ontario 150 programs, as well as local community presenting partners across the province. To date, The Tale of a Town project has gathered over 3000 stories, in almost 200 communities, engaging over 200 local artists across Canada.
Beyond our Tale of a Town project, in 2014 FIXT POINT received a Fresh Ground New Works Commission for The Tale of Harbourfront Centre, a binaural audio play which celebrated Harbourfront Centre's 40th anniversary and was presented as part of the World Stage season. In 2015, FIXT POINT revived their Dora-award nominated production of The Tale of a T-Shirt to tour the Art and Culture Centres in Newfoundland.
In 2017, FIXT POINT released a 10-part television series commissioned by TVOntario, taking the rich media content gathered through interviews across the country to the screen. A second season is underway.
