In the summer of 2017, Driftwood Theatre’s production of Othello will reached 27 communities across Ontario. Set during the Cyprus conflict of 1974, the outdoor, touring play was accompanied by a series of short audio documentaries that audience members could experience before the play at listening stations, or online, anytime.
Below is the four part audio documentary that accompanies this incredible performance.
With The Cyprus Project, our goal was to represent the diversity of perspectives and personal experiences that made up the conflict on Cyprus. Nothing brings a time and place to life more vividly than hearing the first-hand voices of the people who were there.
A range of interviews were conducted with Greek, Turkish, and Armenian Cypriots, and veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces. We travelled to seven communities in Ontario, and conducted phone interviews with participants in British Columbia, Alberta, Los Angeles, Kentucky, and France:
The Cyprus Project was created in partnership with the Driftwood Theatre.
